With advances in drone technology and its growing use worldwide, drones are becoming increasingly beneficial in a wide range of applications. The workshop is divided into two parts. The first part describes drone technology and its various uses in GIS. The second part covers how to create a drone program within an organization: including  managing a large number of flights; employing software; training pilots; and implementing risk mitigation procedures. This workshop is about giving you the tools to make your program a success.

Learning Objectives:
Use drone technology in the context of GIS including:
● Various drone hardware
● Data processing software
● Workflow for drone related projects
Intended Audience:
● GIS specialists who want to learn about drone technology and its benefits.
● GIS specialists who are interested in developing a drone program within their organization.

Presenters Bio:
Peter Keum, GISP - Senior GIS Specialist with King County Wastewater Treatment Division. Drone enthusiast, flying since 2014. FAA Certified Drone Pilot. Developed the Wastewater Treatment Division drone policy/guideline for King County and coordinates drone vendor with various WTD operations. Open source enthusiast, active member of local CUGOS (Cascadia Users of Geospatial Open Source), Co-Organizer of Puget Sound QGIS User Group and participant of Seattle Maptime and OpenStreetMap (OSM) Seattle.

Greg Lang, GISP - GIS/IT Lead Systems Engineer with Pierce County. Greg has over 18 years of local government GIS and Asset Management enterprise level implementation, training, and coordination experience, plus over a decade of non-profit leadership experience including extensive flight operations training and mission experience in a rescue role.  His current role includes IT technical leadership and coordination of GIS, GNSS, Drone, and Asset Management services for Pierce County Washington and is an FAA Certified Drone Pilot.
